Belatedly, I am pleased to announce that my PhD advisee Quinn Packer was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award by the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering for the fall 2022 semester. He was the teaching assistant for Mechanics of Materials and Soil Mechanics. The students overwhelmingly mentioned how they appreciate how he showed concern and answered questions clearly and in a way that was most helpful. Congratulations, Quinn! You are well on your way to a successful career as a professor!

I am excited to be part of a team including Professors Davis Chacon-Hurtado, Alexandra Paxton, and Kerry Marsh that was awarded funding from the Office of the Vice President for Research to study racial and economic equity in road safety. You can read more about the program and our award here.

I am proud to announce that my PhD student Quinn Packer won Second Place in the Graduate Student Presentation Competition at the 2022 CAMMSE Annual Research Symposium, November 11, 2022, for his presentation “Pedestrian Signal Compliance Under Concurrent and Exclusive Phasing at Traffic Signals Considering Geo-Spatial Factors”.

I am happy to announce three of my graduate students completed their studies this spring. Md. Julfiker Hossain and Sadia Sharmin both completed their PhDs, and Quinn Packer completed his MS. Julfiker and Sadia are now working for CDM Smith in Houston. Quinn is continuing as a PhD student at UConn. Congratulations to all!

The research I am conducting for Connecticut Department of Transportation on pedestrian signal alternatives along with my graduate student Olin Green and my Connecticut Transportation Institute colleagues Marisa Auguste, Andrew Tucker and Kai Wang is being featured in UConn Today.

I am pleased to announce that Manmohan Joshi is joining my research group as a PhD student. Manmohan comes from Nepal and will be working on two crash prediction projects funded by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program.
